Head Full of Pills Burgundy T-shirt

£24.00

This is a one-off, premium burgundy T-shirt that was printed to test the colour. I will probably use this colour T-shirt again, as it works really well. But it's unlikely that I will be reprinting this design/colour combination any time soon. This means you can grab a one-of-a-kind T-shirt that no one else on the planet has. There's an 8Y8 logo on the front chest and a Head Full of Pills print on the back, all screen printed by hand in black.

The T-shirt printed on is climate neutral, made using certified organic cotton and renewable green energy sources such as wind and solar. Printed in permanent water-based ink to create the least environmental impact possible.

Description

8Y8’s garment manufacturer was the first in the UK to become a member of the Fair Wear Foundation in 2006, an independent, non-profit organisation combating sweatshops and social injustice through internationally recognised standards and independent audits throughout the supply chain.

Learn more about the Fair Wear Foundation

The Global Organic Textile Standard is the world-leading textile processing standard for ecological and socially responsible textile production, backed up by independent certification of the entire supply chain. Guaranteeing living wages, without forced labour, child labour, or sweatshops, and a complete ban on the use of poisonous chemicals that could otherwise harm farmers, manufacturers, the environment, or you.

Certifying that both the production and processing of textiles meets strict organic standards, the Soil Association is leading the UK’s campaigning and certification of organic food and farming as part of the Global Organic Textile Standard. All harmful pesticides are banned along with harmful manufacturing chemicals, allergenic, carcinogenic and toxic chemicals.

Tested using a consistent benchmark formed on a scientific basis, the Oeko-Tex Standard certifies that products are completely free from any harmful chemicals, ensuring that textiles are safe to be in regular contact with the skin, assuring the safety of textiles and dyestuffs in both a human and ecological context.

In 2008, 8Y8’s supplier became the first company in the world to calculate the carbon footprint of a T-shit and place the Carbon Reduction Label on textile products. Through a combination of low-impact organic farming, efficiency in manufacturing and transportation, and the use of renewable energy instead of fossil fuel based grid electricity, the T-shirts carbon footprint has been reduced by 90%, as certified by the Carbon Trust, earning it the Climate Neutral label.

Head Full of Pills T-Shirt

With a litteral skull full of pills, the Head Full of Pills design is a comment on our ever increasing reliance on drugs to stay healthy. Often seen as an easy fix for any and all ailments, with rarely any regard given to the cause of the problem in the first place. Keep taking the pills, they’ll make everything better, and the drugs companies even richer.

The sugar skull decoration, as often used in the Day of the Dead and All Souls’ Day traditions, in which the dead are remembered, is also a fitting reference. Anyone familiar with tattoo history will also recognise the tears as representing murder and the cobweb standing for a long prison sentence, two concepts that fit perfectly with the pill-popping culture. Once you start taking a prescription there’s regularly more than one pill, one to fight the problem, another to fight the side-effects of the first pill. And so it goes on.
