Every day you're alive is a nice day…
While out walking one summers morning, an elderly gentleman strolled slowly towards me. I've often seen him passing outside on his daily walk. As our eyes met this time, I greeted him with a quick smile and a nod. He politely replied with a “hello.” To which I added the stereotypically British “nice day.” Catching me off-guard, his reply was instant, “every day you're alive is a nice day.” With a little laugh we both carried on our ways. I've always held a similar view, but that moment, that little, unexpected comment hit me like a smack in the face and left a lasting impression which has stuck with me ever since.
